2024 Year in Review
Post Hurricane Beryl Restoration Effort
Once the all-clear was given by NaDMA after the passage of Hurricane Beryl, Grenlec team members began assessing the damage to the infrastructure on our three islands and commenced restoration. By the end of week one, we had restored power to 97% of electricity customers on mainland Grenada.
In the second week, our teams’ efforts were concentrated in St. Andrew and St. Patrick – the areas on the mainland most affected by the storm’s passage.

Teams contributing to the restoration effort
Despite their personal losses, team members in Carriacou and Petite Martinique immediately set about securing the generation plants and started salvage and restoration. They were joined by team members from the mainland and retirees, who were eager to play their part and work alongside our teammates on the Sister Isles in various capacities.

Team members in every Grenlec department contributed to the restoration effort and we appreciate them. Special thanks to all our linemen, who were out from early morning to late hours of the night.
Over the four months, we were grateful to receive strong support from the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC). We remember and thank the CARILEC companies – St. Lucia Electricity Services Ltd. (LUCELEC), Barbados Light & Power Company (BLPC), Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC), Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC), St. Vincent Electricity Services Ltd. (VINLEC), The St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) and the Nevis Electricity Company Ltd. (NEVLEC).
Our regional partners came to our aid with crews, tools and in the case of T&TEC, vehicles.
We also want to recognise and thank the customers, suppliers and individuals who contributed supplies, food and services or facilitated us in so many ways.
Together, we completed post-Beryl restoration by the end of October.
Electricity Charges & Fuel Prices
Impact of World Fuel prices on Fuel Charge
Reflecting world fuel prices, from January 2023 to December 2024, the fuel charge to customers moved from 75 cents to 51 cents per kWh. This represents a 24 cent decrease.

Fuel Adjustment Clause
The Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC) eliminates under or over-recovery of fuel costs by Grenlec by passing on the actual cost that Grenlec pays for fuel to its customers in the next billing period.
The Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC) was implemented on 1 November 2023.

Non-fuel Charge
The non-fuel charge remained steady at $0.4057/kWh. This represents a less than 3 cent increase since 1994.
Reliability
Generation
To assist with providing a reliable supply of electricity to customers on mainland Grenada, we secured 10 megawatts (MW) of rental generation units in August 2024.
While all stakeholders are working to increase renewable energy (RE), traditional generation remains important in ensuring firm capacity. To this end, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved the purchase of two new engines to replace aged units in need of decommissioning. Grenlec is working to finalise the contract for supply and other preliminaries.
Transmission and Distribution Upgrades
As part of our service commitment to enhance reliability, major upgrades and maintenance work were done around the island.

As of December 2024, 47.2% of customers have registered on the Grenlec Mobile App and are using it to access features such as their bill balance, usage history, fault reporting and to get power outage notices.
“Pay, Win, Celebrate”
Kudos to our Grand Prize winners Mikie Isaac and joint winners Cherryann John Philbert & Linky Louison Logie who won a year’s worth of electricity credit up to a maximum value of $500 every month.
Sixty (60) other customers won electricity credit equivalent to their bill value up to a maximum $300.
We congratulate our winners and thank customers for keeping their accounts current and for participating in this promotion. Look out for more ways to win in 2025.
