During their briefing to customers in Carriacou on 16 May, Grenlec’s Acting General Manager and Carriacou Branch Manager advised that one of the two generators in service is overheating at times.

Over the last few days, this situation has necessitated unplanned area outages to reduce the work the generator is doing. By reducing customer loads, the generator works less and this prevents its temperature getting to a critical level, which can result in an islandwide shutdown.

Our team is continuing to work on resolving this overheating challenge.

In the interim, we will manage the situation through planned load shedding. We will publish a schedule of planned outages daily that will include outages for the next day.

Note, however, the possibility of unplanned outages based on demand and changes at the Plant or on the Network.

Grenlec is awaiting a rental generator that is expected to be shipped from Trinidad soon. This unit will improve reliability.

The Company apologises for the continued inconvenience to residential and commercial customers.

It particularly thanks the electricity customers who have been using their generators to help reduce the load on the Plant.

Load Shedding Schedule for Carriacou

Tuesday, 23 May 2023
This daily schedule of planned outages is intended
to help Grenlec manage customers’ service requirements, given the reduced
generation and a technical challenge with one generator.   Note, however, the
possibility of unplanned outages based on demand and changes at the Plant or on the Network.   Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience as we work to get reserve generation in place to improve
