Grenlec supplies energy to all customers from two sources. One portion is supplied by the traditional diesel engines (billed as the fuel charge) and the remaining portion is supplied by renewable energy sources (billed as the RE charge). The rates (charges) are calculated based on the percentage of energy generated from these two sources. The rates are then multiplied by each customer’s energy usage.

Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC)

When world fuel prices are rising, the actual fuel costs paid by Grenlec are higher than what customers are charged, and the FAC is used to recover the difference from customers. When world fuel costs paid by Grenlec are lower, fuel costs paid by Grenlec are lower than what customers are charged, and the FAC is used to credit the difference to customers. This charge was implemented on November 1, 2023. FAC – Adjustment is applied to usage in the previous billing period. The FAC adjusts the fuel charge up or down to remove any difference in what Grenlec paid for fuel and the amount that customers were billed through the fuel charge the prior month.
