With the preliminary round of the 2023 Grenlec Debates concluded, preparation is underway for the second round – the Round of 16.

The preliminaries began with St. David’s Catholic Secondary and Grenada SDA Comprehensive travelling to Carriacou to face Hillsborough Secondary and Bishop’s College respectively.

From Carriacou, the preliminaries moved to the Kirani James Athletics Stadium and then on to The Deluxe Cinema in Grenville as the school’s worked to secure places round two.

Organisers and coaches are commending students for accepting the impromptu challenge.

This impromptu format means the teams randomly select their topic on the day of their match. Teams are then given 30 minutes to prepare their presentation without assistance from their teachers.

This impromptu format of the Grenlec Debates provides an avenue for students to showcase their general knowledge, research, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.

The next round of the Debates will be hosted on October 12 and 13.

Broadcast of the 2023 Debates begins with highlights of the preliminaries on 7 October on MTV at 6pm and on October 8 on GBN TV from 4pm. They will also be available for viewing on Grenlec’s YouTube channel.
