Grenlec is pleased to announce the start of the 2023 Edition of the Grenlec Debates.
Open to secondary schools in Grenada and Carriacou, the Debates will see the participation of twenty-two (22) secondary schools through five (5) rounds of competition.
Significantly, the 2023 Grenlec Debates will feature a new impromptu element, requiring students to develop their arguments on the day of their match without assistance from their teachers.
This change in the format was agreed by schools and organisers to help students further develop their research, critical thinking and public speaking skills.
To mark the start of the season, a virtual Debate Orientation was hosted for teams on 8 September 2023.
In her remarks, Prudence Greenidge, Grenlec’s Corporate Communications Manager, expressed confidence in the students’ ability to meet the challenge to grow. She also heaped gratitude and praise on the many partners and volunteers, who help make the Debates a success. These include educators, judges, students, facilitators and the media.
To prepare for this new season of competition, organisers, partners and participants have been working closely together for more than a year.
The Preliminary Round of the Grenlec Debates begins in Carriacou on Monday, 25 September 2023.
