Monday, 24 September 2018: The 11th season of the Grenlec Debates begins 25 September 2018 with Bishop’s College hosting Grenada Boys’ Secondary School at the Carriacou Health Services.  With all 23 Secondary schools in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique registered, this day one match in Carriacou will be the first of eleven.

Expressing her Company’s delight in hosting the competition this year, Prudence Greenidge, Corporate Communications Manager – Grenlec says Company officials are looking forward to an engaging series of debates. “The motions are much talked about issues and should lend themselves to energetic and healthy discussions”, added Greenidge.

Greenidge salutes the Grenlec Debaters, their coaches, principals and parents. “It takes courage and hard work and sacrifice on the part of students, teachers and our volunteer judges. Exercises like the Grenlec Debates and other extra curricular activities impart essential life skills. The Debates teach confidence, research, critical thinking, analysis, respect and tolerance. In each debate, there is no right or wrong and any team can win through a combination of strong arguments and superior presentation skills”.

The themes for this year are: The Individual in Modern Society, Grenadian and Caribbean History, Litter and our Environment and Climate Change.  The 2018 Grenlec Debates will culminate with the final match on Wednesday, 21 November.

In accordance with the rules governing the Grenlec Debates, last year’s champion, Presentation Brothers’ College automatically qualifies for the round two of the competition. Following day one in Carriacou, there will be five matches each on 26 and 27 September.

Having conducted orientation and training for students, coaches and judges, Grenlec is extending an invitation to the general public to see our nation’s youth in action during the 2018 Grenlec Debates.

Broadcast begins from 13 October with highlights of the preliminaries and full broadcast of each match from Round 2.  Matches will be broadcast on GBN TV, MTV and Grenlec’s YouTube channel.
